Avoiding Device Driver Failures with Automatic Skip Driver
 | If your computer hangs at startup, there are many possible causes (see Chapter 3's “Troubleshooting Windows 98 Startup” section). However, one of the most common startup woes is a device driver that fails to load, either because the driver is missing or corrupted or because the associated device is defective. |
To help prevent these kinds of startup snags, Windows 98 offers the Automatic Skip Driver (ASD) utility. ASD checks the startup logs and looks for devices that failed to start. It then offers to skip those devices on subsequent startups.
