EPILOGUE
The journey is diffi cult. It demands more of you than initiative
and ambition, for the 3 Imperatives will inevitably call on you to
act and speak in ways that may initially seem counterintuitive or
out of character. You will need at times to cut against the grain of
your own inclinations and even the expectations of others. Few
people become effective managers by simply following their gut.
Thus, you will need not just self-awareness but self-control,
personal discipline, determination, and resilience.
Constantly evaluating yourself and seeking feedback will open
you to inevitable pain and risk. You will probably hear and
