
One further implication of increasing globalization for new
managers is a corresponding increase in focus on diversity. Many
of the new managers I meet these days are struggling to develop
the skills it takes to motivate and inspire a diverse group of peo-
ple. Mobilizing others is a difficult task, no matter who they are,
but the task of managing those who are different from oneself is
especially challenging.

attention being paid to issues of diversity because people are
