Chinese Input Method Keyboard Arrays
ere have been dozens of keyboard arrays designed for use with specic Chinese input
methods. e keys of such keyboard arrays have imprinted on them ideographs or ideo-
graph elements (such as radicals). e two keyboard arrays that are discussed in this sec-
tion are the Wubi and Cangjie arrays, which appear to be the most popular.
Wubi array
e Wubi array is designed to be used with the Wubi Method, introduced earlier in this
chapter in the section entitled “Input by stroke shapes.” A Wubi code consists of three or
four elements, but four elements is the most common. e Wubi Method species ve
basic categories of character roots, according to the rst stroke’s shape, as shown in Table
5-20. Also provided are the key cap hanzi and their location on the QWERTY keyboard
array.
