savings and especially for Windows XP users, is that Microso makes Language Packs

available to those users who are running Microso Oce. is means, for example, that

one can purchase the English version of Microso Oce, then download the appropriate

Language Pack to enable the language or script of your choice. For Windows Vista users,

there is only the nancial benet of Microso Oce.

At least for the Mac OS X version of Microso Word, there are still dierences between

the English and localized versions of the application. e Japanese version, for example,

includes the ability to perform vertical layout. I have yet to discover this functionality in

the English version of Microso Word, at least for the Mac OS X version.
