(kana). e term that collectively refers

Kana-to-kanji conversion
(kana kanji henkan). e pro-
cess of converting kana input into a mixture
of kana and kanji characters. e most com-
mon method of inputting Japanese text.
Kanji
(kanji). e ideographs that the Japanese
borrowed from the Chinese. ese number in
the thousands. See also ideograph.
Kanji compound
(kango). A Japanese word consisting of
two or more kanji.
Kanji ligature
(kanji gōji). A character composed
of two or more kanji. Typical examples in-
clude ( heisei; the name of a Japa-
nese era) and ( kabushikigaisha;
meaning “incorporated”).
Kanji tablet
A large tablet containing thousands of indi-
vidual keys, one for each character. is al-
lows for direct kanji input.
Kanji-in
(kanji in). e name usually given
to two-byte character escape sequences as
used in ISO-2022-JP encoding. A kanji-in
JIS X 6004-1986
