Some of the techniques that are used to perform data mining are computationally
complex, and in order to discover the patterns existing within large data sets they
have to perform a large number of computations. In the last 10 years the growth
in the use of large commercial databases (specifically data warehouse) coupled
with the need to understand and interpret this data and the availability of
relatively inexpensive computers has lead to an explosion in the use of data
mining for a wide variety of commercial applications.
