| If you can get logged on to the Windows 2000 client using a local account but can't authenticate to Active Directory, you have three main suspects to check out. This assumes, of course, that you are sure you have a valid AD user account and you know the password. First, get logged on locally and make sure you can ping a DC. If this fails, you must fix the network before you can log on. Next, check the DNS client using the nslookup command to try to resolve the name of a DC.
