When I went on the O’Reilly platform, I was astonished to find all the books there, plus live events and sandboxes so you could play around with the technology.I’ve been on the O’Reilly platform for more than eight years. I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

.NET is currently a specification for a highly interconnected, distributed environment. The technologies implemented here would include the standard COM+ services, as well as SQL Server, Exchange, Biztalk, IIS, and such Internet protocols as Extensible Markup Language (XML) and Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP). XML and SOAP already are being integrated into Windows 2000 now, but will become more feature-rich as time passes.
One of the key concepts behind .NET is the use of Web Services. Because the data is being interchanged in an XML format, we are no longer as concerned with where the data is stored. .NET provides an application infrastructure that can be developed against by Windows-centric developers and others.
