Setting Up Shop

When you ready to set up a Yahoo! store, follow these steps:

1. Go to the Yahoo! home page (www.yahoo.com), scroll down, and click Sign Up Today from the Yahoo! Small Business area, as shown in Figure 3-1.

   You can also go to http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/ecommerce.

   The Yahoo Merchant Solutions page displays the most popular package that Yahoo offers: the Merchant Starter plan. (Two additional packages — Standard and Professional — are recommended for established e-commerce or offline businesses.) We discuss the prices and benefits of these packages later in this chapter, in the section “Selecting a Yahoo! Plan.”

   Yahoo Small Business offers more packages than just its Merchant Solutions. If you want to build a regular Web site, buy a domain name, or sign up for online marketing services, you can do so at Yahoo! Small Business. Find out more at http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com.

2. Click the Sign Up button.
3. Enter a domain name for your Yahoo! store (see Figure 3-2).

   You should have a Web address in mind, but don't worry. If your first choice is taken, Yahoo! offers you several suggestions of available domain names similar to your request. If you already bought a domain name, simply click the link labeled Already Have a Domain Name? Use It with This Order.
