Find units
Split the log entries into units, then merge duplicates. The units are a common name for atomic thoughts, motivations, ability changes, reactions, principles, emotions, behaviors, triggers, and knowledge the user has. They are small but self-contained. Try to find the smallest unit that's still meaningful, and the user would think of it as something separate, not a part of something else.
Units have many names in the literature. For example, Young calls them tasks, while Kalbach named them boxes. I started calling them units because usage scenario prompts lead to tasks, but we are interested in many other prompts for a complex mental model, not just usage scenario prompts.
