Learning is more important than validating

One of the worst settings for the usability test is when a team has already decided to go into one particular product direction and usability testing is used with just the intention to confirm that decision.

In order to avoid that, you need to push for usability testing to happen as early as possible, before the team is committed to any particular direction for the product.

If you are working with very limited resources, keep in mind that some testing is often better than no testing.
