Floating buttons are commonly used in applications to highlight a functionality over the other elements on the screen. The Floating Action Button or FAB is a component featured in the Material Design style guide, making it very popular in Android applications.

This component is presented in several areas of the screen and is popular in maps. It is common to locate this button in the bottom area of the screen because of its proximity to the thumb area.
