4.6 e Impact of Etiquette on Performance
in Human–Computer Interactions
If people do perceive statements from computers to be polite or rude
in much the same way as they view similar statements from people,
does this matter? Does it aect their performance in terms of reac-
tion time, compliance, work load, or other important dimensions? We
assessed the impact of etiquette on human performance in a study
sponsored by the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory.
