As patients and nurses interact with robots, their mental models of
how a robot operates, and how they should respond, may change over
time. A patient’s original mental model may be based on concepts,
beliefs and experiences of HHI and could be expanded or constrained
by changes in the robot’s appearance or patient experiences of dier-
ent types of robot behaviors (Kiesler and Goetz, 2002). is may in
turn mediate the extent to which the patient anthropomorphizes the
robot and expects social interactivity.
