So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Tape gateway
The final mode of deployment is to deploy the storage gateway appliance in tape library mode. As the name implies, it exposes itself as a tape drive would, which means you can connect it to your existing backup application with the same protocol.
One the backend, it saves the tape backups on S3. Once you move them to an archive, on the backend, it uses Amazon Glacier in order to archive the data.
At the time of writing, a tape library using the tape gateway can store up to 1500 tapes or 1 PB of data.
If you are wondering where you would use this, it is often used when you need to replace an existing robotic tape library and also offsite backup/archival process.
