Azure Stack was launched by Microsoft in 2016 to fill the void of the hybrid cloud. It was for organizations that couldn't, or wouldn't, move to the public cloud due to compliance or regulatory requirements.
In the most simple terms, it provides an Azure-like experience on your personal hardware in your private data center / Co-Lo (Colocation) data center.
The following table shows the services that are provided by the Azure Stack:
| Category | Services offered (Azure terminology) |
| Compute | Virtual Machines, Service Fabric |
| Data Storage | Blobs, Tables, Queues |
| Network | Virtual Network, LoadBalancer, VPN Gateway |
| Management & Security | Azure Portal, KeyVault |
