When I went on the O’Reilly platform, I was astonished to find all the books there, plus live events and sandboxes so you could play around with the technology.I’ve been on the O’Reilly platform for more than eight years. I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Application migration – avoiding vendor lock-in
Having a federated cluster will allow us to seamlessly migrate applications from one infrastructure provider/data center to the other with minimal effort. If designed for it (using global databases) we can do this in near real-time. It would also make the whole migration scriptable, which means we can schedule it and trigger it.
There are several indications that once cloud service innovation plateaus, it will become a utility provider - along the same lines as electricity and water. It will become standardized, and possibly even traded, like the current stock market.
This means there might be a reason to be on cloud provider A on day 1, and on cloud provider B on day 2, and then back to ...
