When I went on the O’Reilly platform, I was astonished to find all the books there, plus live events and sandboxes so you could play around with the technology.I’ve been on the O’Reilly platform for more than eight years. I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
WMI monitoring and custom agent monitoring
Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) is used in order to do the monitoring of Windows Server alone. While there is no reason that SNMP cannot be used, Microsoft introduced WMI to natively work with several of its operating systems. It uses RPC for communication, but the basic idea and concepts remain the same.
Several monitoring systems can use their own custom agent for monitoring. While the concept doesn't vary much, they can do the following:
- Make the agent smart enough so that it sends data to the monitoring server, than having the monitoring server poll for the data. This helps the monitoring server become more event-based.
- Add some code, which performs some specific kind of monitoring. ...
