It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
SNMP-based availability monitoring
Availability monitoring can also be done using SNMP; however, when SNMP is involved, we don't merely do availability and due to this reason, it has been covered in the next section.
In summary, availability monitoring is an event (which is up or down) and is used in several places, such as in the load balancer monitor, to mark the servers up or down and in general operations to create a ticket in an ITSM tool, which allows the operations team to react to the event.
