Masquerading imperfection
As you can see, there are a lot of things we can do with spatial mapping, all helping to achieve a level of realism other systems in the VR and AR world cannot match. This helps to convince the user the virtual objects and the physical objects around him blend seamlessly as if it is all really there. However, there is another nice side-effect: since all our virtual objects are a bit more believable and rooted in the real world, the user's brain tends to filter out things that are not perfect, since this does not happen in the real world.
