Another thing that helps us to locate the source and direction of sounds is the echo that sounds have. When a sound comes from the left, we hear that in our left ear first, then the right ear, but then we also get to hear the echo as the sound bounces off the wall and returns to our ears. The ear that will be hit first is dependent, of course, on the distance we are from walls and other objects, but we can use this to find the source as well.
