Getting and Installing Open Sound System for Linux
The best way to start is to download the demo version and try it yourself. You can download the demo of Open Sound System for Linux (known as OSS/Linux) from the main distribution site at http://www.opensound.com or from the Commercial Packages CD that comes with Caldera eDesktop.
Go to the Web page for Linux-x86, and then click the Download button on the left. You are asked for some information about who you are and what kind of system you are running; then you are allowed to download the demo. This demo times out after seven days, but it is sufficient for testing whether the commercial sound driver works with your hardware. Unless your hardware is very unusual, it will work fine.
