It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
The Linux Kernel
The Linux kernel is one of the largest and most complex portions of your Linux system, and you wouldn't have a Linux system without it. However, as long as you have all the proper tools installed, building a new kernel is one of the easier tasks you'll have. It is guaranteed to build if you follow the instructions in this chapter. If you configure it incorrectly, it might not boot, but you'll be prepared for that eventuality before the end of the chapter.
