Differences in Linux Distributions
Some of you are likely puzzled by the various flavors of Linux distributions. If you've been on a Linux mailing list, you know that the choice of distribution can cause as big or bigger a flame war as can the vi versus emacs debate, and so on. The flames take on a religious tone. And that's exactly what happens, because Linux is Linux. Anything else is just a religious debate and should be avoided.
Three major differences (and one minor difference) exist among the numerous flavors of Linux (if you don't count Slackware's use of BSD versus System V initialization). This book discusses three of those flavors. But at the heart is the same kernel.
