Network Startup Under OpenLinux
With the more esoteric information of networking basics behind, you're ready to look at how OpenLinux handles starting the network. You'll also see how you can use several utilities to view, troubleshoot, and manage your network connection.
When OpenLinux starts up, the rc scripts are run as described in Chapter 13, "System Initialization." First, any module to activate your Ethernet or other interface device is inserted by /etc/rc.d/rc.modules. Then, one script, S01network, which resides in /etc/ rc.d/rc3.d, rc4.d, and rc5.d and is a symlink to /etc/rc.d/init.d/network, runs when any of runlevels 3–5 are entered.
