Installing LILO is really quite simple. The key to a successful installation is to create the configuration file correctly. After the configuration file is created, it's just a matter of running the map installer program. Modifications to the configuration file (/etc/lilo.conf) can be made at any time, but the map installer (/sbin/lilo) must be run each time changes are made in order for the changes to take effect.
LILO is installed by logging in as the root user and running the map installer (/sbin/lilo). The map installer reads the configuration contained in the /etc/lilo.conf file and configures the boot loader based on directives contained therein.
