Basic Configuration

Although the Web server is essentially a mechanism to transfer files from your machine to another (the client) on the network, it is a surprisingly flexible piece of software.

It supports many options for changing its name, address, and performance characteristics. You can specify multiple directories from which to serve documents, and you can apply different document and directory handling options, security settings, and access rights to each. You can also control how errors are returned to the user, where and how log files are written, and how the server assigns types to files that it returns.
