STROKES
A stroke in TA is a unit of recognition from another person. It may be verbal or nonverbal, positive or negative. TA assumes that we are recognition hungry and that any stroke is better than none. There is a stroke economy in which stroking is limited by unspoken rules—for instance, that you shouldn’t ask for strokes. Restricting strokes is a way of trying to control others.
