New discoveries in neuroscience, the scientific study of the brain and nervous system, are reported almost daily in the media. Shirley Tilghman, biochemist and president of Princeton University, claims that neuroscience will dominate scientific endeavor in the first half of the twenty-first century, much as physics dominated the first half of the twentieth century and molecular biology the second half (Ollwerther, 2010).
