Coaching has always benefited, and will continue to benefit, from a creative interaction with other disciplines. Specific approaches developed in other fields have been fruitfully applied to coaching.
From therapy, for example, comes the solution-focused approach, with its emphasis on future possibilities rather than past problems and its concern with the efficient use of limited contact time. Other coaches have borrowed the principles of Appreciative Inquiry from the field of organization development, and effectively applied to the coaching engagement a process that preempts an analysis of the perceived problem with a focus on what is already working.
