Alternative dispute resolution (ADR) is an umbrella term for a range of methods designed to help people resolve disputes without having to take legal action. It has grown partly out of a need to reduce pressure on the courts, and partly in response to a general desire to find more conciliatory ways to resolve conflicts at work, in communities, and in families.
