I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Understanding hosts and lmhosts files
The hosts and lmhosts files are used for name resolution and are stored in the C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc directory as shown in Figure 4.15. The host files contains the mapping of IP addresses to host names, and is used for DNS name resolution. Unlike hosts, the LAN manager hosts (lmhosts) file contains the mapping of IP addresses to computer names, and is used for NetBIOS name resolution. In both files, entries are inserted manually, and each entry should be kept on an individual line. Table 1 presents the examples of inserting hosts and lmhosts entries:
