The primary storage is a hardware component that is capable of temporarily storing data, allowing processors to access data faster and easier, as well as acting as a communication bridge between applications and peripheral devices to access the processor. Undoubtedly, all of these features belong to random access memory (RAM). As with RAM, read-only memory (ROM) is also considered primary storage. Table 9.1 lists the differences between RAM and ROM.
