It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Functional level (3.3.7)
The functional level determines the available AD DS capabilities. Also, depending on what functional level you have set for your forest or domain, it determines which versions of Windows Server you can run in your forest or domain.
To set up the functional level in Windows Server 2016, use the Active Directory Domain Services Configuration Wizard as shown in Figure 4.11:
