The Figure-Ground law

Using the Figure-Ground law, we can differentiate between an object or element based on its surrounding form or area, where its shape is naturally perceived as an object or figure while the surrounding area is read or seen as a background.

If we balance the object and background, we can perceive a clear image. Using the figure/ground relationship, we can create a clear view of the image and add interest to it.

The law of Figure-Ground refers to the relationship between positive and negative space. The idea here is that our eyes will separate whole elements or objects from their background so that we can better see and understand the whole image, which is usually one of the first things we do when we look at any composition. ...
