Understanding the user's motivation

Let's say, for example, we want to create a product or an app that will help people lose weight, but the hard part here will be motivating people to lose weight, with or without using our app.

On the psychology side, we will distinguish between two different motivations:

  • Extrinsic motivation
  • Intrinsic motivation

By this, we mean that users can be driven to take actions or do something either by external factors, such as receiving a monetary reward, or by internal factors, such as the enjoyment of doing a specific activity using our product.
