Running the data upgrade process
Running the data upgrade process can be further separated into two steps: the first step is running the pre-upgrade process that runs on Dynamics AX 2012, and the second step is referring as data upgrade process that runs on Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations environment.
The pre-upgrade process within Dynamics AX 2012 is enabled through a hotfix installation. The purpose of this process is to copy some of the information needed from Dynamics AX 2012 model DB to transaction DB so that you have to copy only transaction db for an upgrade.
