I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
SOAP versus REST
There is always discussion among integration experts with regards to which one is better: SOAP or REST. How do they compare? The following bullet points highlight some of the comparisons between SOAP and REST:
- SOAP is a protocol and REST is an architectural style
- SOAP defines standards to be strictly followed, REST does not define too many standards like SOAP
- SOAP requires more bandwidth and resources than REST
- SOAP defines its own security; RESTful web services inherit security measures from the underlying transport layer
- SOAP permits the XML data format only; REST permits different data formats, such as plain text, HTML, XML, and JSON
