SS7 POINT CODES

SS7 nodes are identified with an address and each node must have a unique address. The SS7 addresses are called point codes (PCs) (see Figure B-5). The point code is a hierarchical address consisting of a network identifier, a network cluster and a network cluster member. The network identifier, as its name implies, identifies a unique network (123 in this example). The network cluster identifies a cluster of nodes which belong to a network (1 or 2 in this example). Typically, a cluster of signaling nodes consists of a group that home-in on a mated pair of STPs. They can be addressed as a group. The network cluster member code identifies a single node operating within a cluster (1, 2, 3, or 4 in this example).
