THE EIA-232 INTERFACE
The RS-232/EIA-232 standards have been widely used throughout the world and are functionally aligned with the ITU-T V.24 recommendations. During the last two revisions, RS-232-C was redesignated as EIA-232-D, then EIA-232-E. One revision includes the definition of three testing circuits, a redefinition of ground, and some other minor changes. Another revision made other changes to align EIA-232 with V.24. Table 6-2 summarizes the EIA-232 standard and its relationship to the ITU-T V.24 circuits.
