IPDC

The IP Device Control Protocol (IPDC) is an important component of the Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP), which is explained in Chapter 8. The protocol operates between the Media Gateway and the Media Gateway Controller, and is only implemented if these entities are separate from each other. The relationships of IPDC and MGCP are shown in Figure 11-18. IPDC resides at reference point N in the Call Model described in Chapter 9 (see Figure 9-1). The protocol defines the IP Signaling Transport (IPST) message set for the MGC to perform call and media control on the MG. Several Internet drafts are in various stages of development, and I refer you to [TAYL98][7] for the basic information on IPDC.
