In a previous section in the chapter (see "Barriers to Successful Deployment of IP Telephony"), I made some general comments on the difficulty of supporting speech traffic in the Internet. This section provides more information in the context of how the requirements for voice and video traffic differ.
Voice transmissions exhibit a high tolerance for errors. If an occasional packet is distorted, the fidelity of the voice reproduction is not severely affected.
