THE BASIC FRAMEWORK AND THE INTERNET SPECIFICATIONS
Several Internet Drafts describe the operations of SS7 over IP. [GREE98][2] describes the overall architectural framework for SS7-Internetworking, and [DALI98][3] describes an architecture for an SS7-Internet Gateway. [HOLD98][4] defines a signaling protocol for an SS7-IP gateway, called the Reliable Signaling Gateway Protocol (RSGP). These Internet drafts are related to the Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP), discussed in Chapter 9, and since MGCP is emerging as a preferred VoIP protocol suite, the analysis of these specifications are made in the context of MGCP.
