SIGNAL FILTERS AND THE FINITE IMPULSE RESPONSE (FIR) FILTER

One of the main operations of the DSP is signal filtering. The operation is used to improve the quality of the signal, such as the signal-to-noise ratio.

The Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filter is a common digital filter. It implements a 31-tap filter, which is shown in Figure 3-8. This illustration is the most widely used in the literature and further information is available from [EYRE98] and [LAPS97]. Both these references use the same examples, and identical textual explanations. I quote directly from [EYRE98].[5]
