We learned earlier that the Call Agent and the Gateway exchange eight types of MGCP messages, and we discussed them in a general way. The messages are called commands when sent to the Gateway, and responses when sent from the Gateway.
Figure 9-15 shows the format for the MGCP message. The messages are coded as lines of text consisting of a command header, followed by a session description. The command header is composed of a command line and a set of parameter lines. Text lines are separated by line feed character. The items in the message are simply strings of ASCII printable characters, separated by an ASCII space (0 × 20) or tabulation characters (0 × 09).
