THE SS7-IP ARCHITECTURAL FRAMEWORK

A variety of SS7-IP components are being proposed in the Internet standards and are under development by the VoIP vendors. Figure 10-3 reflects the [GREE98] Draft—the Architectural Framework. As you can see, the entities in the "SS7-IP Gateway/Controller" are more numerous than in the MGCP that we examined in Chapter 9 in which H.323 defines only the gateway and the gatekeeper, and MGCP defines only (a) the Gateway and (b) the Media Gateway Controller/Call Agent. In fact, the Architectural Framework (hereafter called the Framework) defines other entities that are not shown in Figure 10-3.
