MGCP supports the conventional telephony operations, such as dial tone, offhook, etc. It also supports telephony-based links, such as DS1. All these components are identified with names. We describe them here, but will not go into the rules for the syntax of each name, which are quite detailed and beyond the general explanation.
Figure 9-12 shows the concepts of endpoints, connections, and calls. Endpoints in MGCP are sources and sinks of data. Endpoints can be physical links, like a T1 trunk. They may be virtual links that operate over the physical links.
