Custom machine types
In addition to predefined machine types, GCE allows developers to create custom machine types to fit specific use cases. For applications that require resources somewhere between the different levels of predefined machine types, custom machine types can offer up to 40% savings in resource utilization.
Custom machine types may also present savings for applications that require memory and vCPU ratios that fall between the n1-standard, n1-highmem, and n1-highcpu machine type families. The instance-hour cost of custom machine types are computed based on the combination of the number of vCPUs and the amount of RAM allocated to the machine.
