Anyone that has worked with virtual machines is likely familiar with the concept of images. Compute Engine images contain all operating system files, as well as optional resources such as applications and drivers. When creating a new VM, a specified image is used to create the VM's boot disk.
Google Cloud maintains a registry of images, including both publicly available images and user-created images that are private to a given Google Cloud project. To view the registry of available images, go to the Google Cloud Console and navigate to Navigation menu | Compute Engine | Images.
